When analysing connections in CYPE Connect or StruBIM Steel, users may encounter the following warning:
A convergence value for loadcase 'X' cannot be reached. The results are shown for when the Y% of the load is applied.
The program analyses the connection by means of a phased process, applying the load progressively and observing the resulting deformation. In this case, it is indicated that the system remains balanced until the shown percentage of the applied load is reached, at which point the analysis stops converging and a state of equilibrium is no longer reached. In this situation, the program provides the results corresponding to that load point, so that problem areas can be identified and indications of possible necessary modifications can be obtained.
If the load percentage where the problem occurs is very low, this indicates that the connection is poorly designed to withstand those loads, resulting in excessive deformation.
The particular solution for each case is varied and may require a complete redesign of the connection.
For example, in connections with bars attached to other bars or plates with a single bolt, the model may not be suitable, as they may rotate and act as a mechanism. This situation could be solved if the connection has two bolts. However, each case must be evaluated individually.
