General objectives

  • Learning the processes of data entry, analysis of results and processing of information to obtain the project's graphical information and written information.
  • Acquiring the necessary skills for using the programs.

  • Students in their final years of technical studies who are interested in learning about this tool that is so widespread in firms and technical offices.

Lesson plan

Unit 1. Studying the structure to be designed, and preparing and entering the data.

  • Characteristics of materials and loads.
  • Floor data.
  • Drawing templates.
  • Entering columns.
  • Data for foundations.

Unit 2. Entering floor slabs and singular elements.

  • Plan data, entering walls and beams.
  • Entering one-way floor slabs.
  • Special loads: envelopes, partitions, lifts.
  • Staircases.
  • Sloped floor slabs.

Unit 3. Analysing the results and solving the structure.

  • Checking undersized elements.
  • Checking stress envelopes in the different elements of the structure.
  • Checking the deformations of the structure, one element at a time and the global behaviour of the structure when faced with different actions.
  • Solving errors.

Unit 4. Optimising results and preparing written and graphic documents needed for the project.

  • Analysing the foundation for isolated footing.
  • Optimising the reinforcement drawings: column schedule, beam schedule, floor slab schedule and footing schedule.
  • Exporting to Arquimedes: project bill of quantities.


    • Basic computer skills.
    • Basic knowledge of architecture, engineering or construction.
    • Laptop with mouse, wifi connection and USB port.
    • Installing CYPECAD.

To optimise your training time, please bring your personal laptop with the programs already installed. To do so:

  1. Your system must meet the minimum requirements for running CYPE programs: Minimum requirements.
  2. Register on the free platform and download and install the latest version of the following program:
    • CYPECAD (if you plan to use a "Temporary license version", choose this option in the installation process and enter the key provided).
  3. Installation information: How to register, download and install applications.
  4. Confirm that each program opens correctly and access any of the example jobs: How to access example jobs.
